LHS Volleyball Season Ends
By Twantanisha Derrough
As the Lincoln lady tiger’s volleyball team concludes the season the coaches have taken a moment to reflect on this season’s growth.   With the varsity team having the overall record of 5-20, the season ended without advancing to the playoffs. Junior varsity had an overall record of 6-17.   Head coach Jocelyn Mays says this season had the challenge of adjusting. Many players didn’t know how to play or were new to playing at a high school level. Next year she looks forward to a more cohesive team with more skilled players and an offseason development team.
The best moments of the season to her would be the themed practices, where the team dressed according to the theme of the day, going to the school football game, and helping Dade Middle School pass out uniforms and food to the surrounding community. Kara Crayton, the team’s assistant coach says that this season features a great deal of growth. “The junior varsity team had players that weren’t as experienced as others but they still finished the season without giving up,” she added. She would have liked to see more enthusiasm and leadership coming from the players on both teams. Next season she says that she looks forward to possible returning players and players with experience that actually have love for the game. She hopes to have more commitment from the coaches, players, school staff, and the parents. “ This season had its challenges but it had its improvements from the coaches and the players too and hopefully next year the volleyball team will be able to advance to the playoffs with skilled and disciplined players,” she concluded.
Lady Tigers Basketball Team Looks Forward to a Triumphant Season
By Twantanisha Derrough
As the basketball season kicks off the coaches as well as the girls are hungry for that state ring. Head Coach Carlesa Dixon says she not only wants her team to go to state but she also wants the girls to become better young ladies on and off the court. She also states that she encourages the girls by pushing them to set goals for practice and for games. When asked how she deals with the personalities of a group of girls, assistant coach Artavia Burns responded, “You have to treat every girl individually because no two people are the same,” she added.” Kiara Simpson, senior varsity player commented that since this is her last year playing high school basketball, she would like to be on a winning team.  She believes that despite the circumstance the team should never lose hope and that they can achieve their goal of winning state by always believing   in each other and understanding the different concepts of the game. After high school, if given the chance, Simpson would like to continue playing basketball for the college of her choice.
Freshman varsity player, Diamond Sweats says she was nervous about being on varsity because she would be playing with girls that may be more advanced   than   her .“ Along with being  recruited  since my seventh grade year I have worked  hard to get where  I am  now and I expect nothing less than to go to state, “ she added.  Diamond idolizes senior, Jalah Walton, because she says Jalah pushes her as well as the other girls to do better.  As the season progresses she looks forward to building friendships with her teammates and perfecting her skills. Boys Varsity Basketball Team Falls to SOC
By Adrian Baker
During Saturday’s match-up between Lincoln and S.O.C, the Tiger turnovers and second chance points put them in a situation that was hard to come out of.
Demarcus Randle and Kortrijk Miles had a night with 18 and 13 points respectively, but it wasn’t enough to pull off the victory a Lincoln lost 82-78.
“Everything we do, we do as a team.” “We beat ourselves tonight with the amount of turnovers and we need to stop pointing the finger at one another and play better in the next game.” stated Adrian Baker, senior shooting guard.
