ASK the “L”
Advice column

Dear L,
As a senior, should I feel ashamed that I haven’t been accepted to any college?
~Feeling Insecure
Dear feeling insecure,
You should never be ashamed because there is still time to get into any other college. Don’t stop trying because a school didn’t accept you. Keep encouraging yourself and keep applying to other schools.
Dear L,
What is the best way to start off a new year, when the year before ended so great?
~New Year Hopeful
Dear New Year Hopeful,
Well you can always start your new year off by doing something productive and fun. You could go and be with friends and just not think about what happened last year and think about the year that’s in front of you.
Dear L,
How can students at Lincoln High School prepare better for exams?
~Confused Tester
Dear Confused Tester,
Students should always study, but they also need to learn the material and stop trying to memorize it. If a student doesn’t know how to prepare for an exam, he should ask his teacher for the help they need.

Dear L,
Since the Open Carry Law went into effect January 1, 2016, I have feared going anywhere knowing that it’s now legal for some people to have guns. Since the law passed I have been very anxious every time I have left home and I’m tired of it. What can I do to help ease my apprehension?

~Terrified Girl

Dear Terrified Girl,
Don’t ever be afraid to leave home. This law shouldn’t prevent you from going out and enjoying yourself. Before the law was even passed, people were already carrying guns. Just know that the person with the gun is no bigger than you. Stay strong and be cautious of your surroundings and avoid conflict.
